I am trying to load GenToo 2004.2 on my Athlon 64-bit machine. I used the live install cd and get the the root and try to run fdisk, however the drives cannot be found. I have windows xp loaded on one drive and Red Hat loaded on the other. Both drives are recognized just fine in the bios and show up as hda and hdb in dmesg. Whenever I try to run fdisk, I get an "Unable to upen /dev/hda" error. |

I am having exactly the same problem. This affects hdparm as well.
I can boot into the normal 2004.2 livecd and everything works, but the amd64 bit version does not. |

What kind of network card are you using? Have you tried to modprobe it's driver? |
