Will these two get along together without any special effort? I've gone through great pains getting DRI on this box and certainly wouldn't put up with a non-accelerated X!
If there are any particular steps to be take, could you link me up with some documentation? Thanks! |

As far as I understand Gentoo is by default a devfs based system, but if you'd rather run with udev here's the gentoo udev guide, perhaps this might help you in your efforts

udev and ATI work perfectly together with no change in either's basic config files.
The link provided by eSinner is, IMO, the weakest of the Gentoo guides, but it does provide two very good links right at the bottom for Decibels UDEV setup and writing udev rules.
Have a good read of those two, especially Decibels one to see exactly what you want. For example, there are ways of ensuring you don't have a total udev system untill you are quite happy and can still boot into devfs if you want.
It is very easy to set up and, again IMO, is much better then devfs, especially when plugging devices in and out of the system such as cameras or mp3 sticks.
Anyway, it works fine here with ATI.
