How do i make my computer boot back up to the terminal instead of going to gdm? |

Ok, I'm not 100% sure on this, as I'm in the process of installing gentoo for the very first time, but I know on redhat there is a file /etc/inittab and in there there is a runlevel...
switch it to 3 for console I think and 5 for gui.
then reboot and it should take effect..
NB. This is knowledge from redhat, not gentoo.. so be careful

just run rc-update remove xdm
(might be 'delete' instead of remove, I dunno off hand) |

No, do not edit /etc/inittab. Gentoo uses a different strategy.
Do 'rc-update del xdm default'.
If you want to add it again do 'rc-update add xdm default'.
