ps2 keyboard nonresponsive on boot

I have a logitech elite keyboard connected to my ps2 keyboard port, i also use a ps2 mouse. however when i boot the system (either in or out of X), the keyboard is non-responsive. when X is initialized the mouse works, and i have noticed that the mouse movement becomes jerky when i type anything using the keyboard, but of course the keyboard never responds. This happens with any ver of the 2.6.7 kernel, the 2.6.4 kernel seems to work ok but the keyboard still takes several seconds to initialize, but at least it works afterwards. Any ideas?
