Hi there,
I'm sorry for bothering you with this problem, but I just don't know what to do now. I tried to install Gentoo, but it seems I'm to stupid to get even the first step right.
The Gentoo CD bootet just fine, and when it gave me a shell I did
and I got an "Unable to open /dev/hda". Then I made
Code: |
ls -lha /dev/h<tab>
|
And I only got hdb and hdc.
After searching this forum for the problem I tried
And I've been told that if got a CD Burner at hdb, another CD Drive at hdc and a
ST<somenumber>A ATA Disk Drive on hda???
Concering this I don't know why fdisk /dev/hda doesn't work. Can anyone help?
Ben
P.S. In Case it is important: There is SuSE 9.1 running on the PC.

Are you using a SATA hard disk? If so, try /dev/sda
Otherwise: What devices are connected to you secondary IDE controller? Two CD/DVD drives or also your hard disk? |

Same result: Unable to open - also there is no /dev/sda

The hard disk and the CD burner are connected to the first IDE controller. The second CD drive is connected to the second controller.

I just tested if it changes anything if I connect the drives to diffrent controlers. Now the hard drive is connected to the primary controler and the two CD drives are connected to the secondary controler. Only thing that changes is, that I don't have hdb anymore, but /dev/hdd instead. |
