Since using XFree 4.2.1, the KDE login screen (kdm) takes ages to come up when starting X ... there is a lot of disk usage ... when I used XFree 4.2.0, it was right there seconds after X was loaded ... any idea?
I am using 1.4_rc1 with gcc 3.2 |

| That's weird, I experienced the opposite. When I saw your post I logged out to time it...from typing "startx" to kde fully loaded only took 10 seconds. It used to take about 20 seconds or so. Did you change anything else besides X? |

It seems i had the same problem, a lot of disk activity when lauching xfree...
Xfree seems to make a sort of font caching.
To resolve this prob i re-emerged fontconfig, whick rebuild the font cache after its installation, you should try ;o). |
