if say i wanna boot windows and linux.. do i have to set bootable partitions using fdisk in BOTH the windows and linux partition? However, if i set bootable to 2 partitions the booting process gives an error : INVALID PARTITION TABLE... please advice.. |

can you post both your partition table and your grub.conf/lilo.conf?
AFAIK you have to set bootable just for the windows one. |

NO you just wanne set the bootflag to one of the two.
You can choose wichone.
A few pages further in the manual, you will be requird to install a boot loader, LILO or GRUB this allows you to get a menu at startup so u can choose wichone you would like to boot. Gentoo or windows in tyhis case |

You only need to lable a partition bootable if the bootloader resides on that partition. If you install grub/lilo to the MBR and boot windows and linux from that bootloader, you only need to set windows bootable because its bootloader is chain-loaded. _________________ If tugboats were bigger, they'd be the ones getting tugged. |
