Hi, I am a n00b to Gentoo. I am using a stage 3 install without network connectivity. Walked through the steps and have foudn that when running emerge genkernel I receive this error.
/var/tmp/portage/freetype-2.1.5-rl/work/freetype-2.1.5/objs/ftbase.lol ERROR 1.
How can I solve this issue without using network connectivity?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and cherished.

Have you considered configuring the kernel manually? Being a noob to gentoo doesn't necessarily mean a noob to linux.... |

Genkernel was written with good intentions, but it isn't bulletproof (as you have experienced), and makes your boot process slower.
There's no better time to compile your first kernel than now!! Once you boot your first custom kernel, you'll likely say "Oh, that wasn't so bad!! And it boots so quickly!!"
If you get confused about an option in menuconfig, type ? to see information about that option. Usually it clarifies whether or not to include it. The Gentoo Handbook explains which options are necessary for all Gentoo users. Also, these forums are littered with crazy people who compile kernels sometimes several times a day. They will be able to help you out.
Good luck. _________________ If tugboats were bigger, they'd be the ones getting tugged. |
