Xorg-x11 fails applying a patch as well, should I comment that line in the ebuild too?

0425_all_6.7.0-sun-type6-keyboard.patch

edit: actually, I'd have to move the .patch away

edit2: I renamed to .orig the following patches: 0425, 5130, 9210 and 9962, now it starts compiling.

yeah well :) the patches can stop working at any time, if that happens, remove the epatch line(s) from the ebuild till it patches (and hopefully builds)

I'll take it as a general rule then so I won't bug you again with the same problem ^^ Seems like it's working fine, by the way.

Commenting out those epatch lines sure does fix the problem, but don't forget that editing stuff inside a subversion repository is not wise if you don't understand the differences between subversion and rsync. (just make sure you run "svn revert -R ." inside the repository before running "svn up" or otherwise the ebuilds you edited may break and you'd have to manually fix them. Also, don't forget to report the problems to me or redeeman so we can fix them.)

Hi, I cant emerge natilus cvs. Is this because it depends on
the cvs versions of net-print/libgnomecups and net-print/gnome-cups-manager?

If so not al dependencies for this package are present;
net-print is absent.

Code:

hey guys,
I'm having some problem setting this up...here's what I've done so far.

1) /usr/local/trunk is where all the builds are saved (rev143). I did add /usr/local/trunk to portage overlay, as well as in /root/.fluidportage

2) I added all the xfce-base and xfce-extra lines from README to /etc/portage/package.keywords and package.unmask

3) I updated subversion to 1.1

even after all this I can't emerge anything, emerge -s for xfce4 still shows the old packages in portage...any ideas?

Did you add the overlay to /etc/make.conf?

Plus, not that it should matter if you're consistent, but I put in the README that one should use /usr/local/fluidportage/trunk. I'd recommend that just so it's all consistent with the README, unless you have a good reason for doing otherwise. :P

yup, I did add it to /etc/make.conf

at first I did use /usr/local/fluidportage/trunk with same result, that's why I went to /trunk instead. I'll change it back to fluidportage/trunk to see if there's any luck.

thanks.

changed it back but still the same problem.
e.g, if I try emerge -s beep-media-player , I get:
Code:

*  media-sound/beep-media-player
      Latest version available: 0.9.7_rc2-r3
      Latest version installed: 20101010
Size of downloaded files: 1,665 kB
      Homepage:    http://beepmp.sourceforge.net/
      Description: Beep Media Player
      License:     GPL-2

instead of beep-media-player-cvs like I used to before.

Reedman and or sn4ip3r:
Have you guys ever considered adding the popular kernels that are not in the portage tree...such as nitro-sources. Just wanted to check and see.

From the looks of it, you have the fluidportage ebuild installed (that's the 20101010). As for why it won't show up with emerge: did you add the "-*" to /etc/portage/package.keywords under cat-name/package-name?

@ pagal:
You have to add
Code:
cat-name/pkg-name -*

for each xfce package you want to install. If you've done it a number of times, you're probably on the right track. And until you do that, none of the packages will show up in portage because they're masked by the keyword.

Hey,

I've been using fluidportage for a few cvs things and was just wondering ... is it possible to make it not clean the working files so that only stuff that has changed gets rebuilt? That would do wonders for time spent compiling =)

Did you see my original post where I said you can use
Code:
fluidmanager --pkgs-upgrade
to do exactly that?

Perhaps I wasn't really clear ...

For example, when compiling the kernel, once it's compiled, and you add a patch or change a config option or something, and then 'make' again, it only compiles files that have been changed.

The fluidmanager --pkgs-upgrade command re-emerges the packages with changes in cvs, creating a new workdir for each (at least on my system with my *one* cvs ebuild testcase).

From my limited understanding of the build process (newb! :D) it seems that if a 'make clean' is not performed on the source directory, much of the compiled code remains there and can be used in subsequent compiles to avoid recompiling the exact same code. I could be horribly wrong here, but that's the way it's seemed to work when I've been compiling stuff manually :)

Anyways, hope that clarifies things, and if the fluidmanager --pkgs-upgrade thing can actually do what I'm describing, then there must be something I'm doing wrong ;) Any idea what that would be?

And thanks for the guide ! Up until now I've only been able to do small things with cvs packages.

Use ccache, it does not give you the same speedup but it is a lot more simple to setup. And no, as far as I know there is no easy way to do what you described.

I did some googling but the only thing I could come up with was a couple newsthread posts 4 months old that didn't seem to apply. I thought about trying the QT-CVS build from the "official" KDE-CVS ebuilds but I wasn't sure if that would help; and from my understanding since QT isn't easily slotted; I'd have to rebuild my existing KDE as well lest I risk waking up to an unuseable system.

EDIT: I initially thought it might be just a code error; so I waited a few days before posting this; but unless its just "my" system; it doesn't appear to be an upstream problem.

Playing on the hunch that it might be a QT issue; I tried using the QT-CVS ebuild from the "official" KDE-CVS sections. QT compiled fine but whenever I tried moving onto a KDE app it would die on ./configure as it was unable to locate qt-mt (also suggesting that QT wasn't compiled with thread support). I'm not sure if this is because the QT-CVS ebuild is out of date (They haven't been updated since August so its possible) or not but I've since moved back to ~x86 with still no further progress.
