|
|
Hi,
i'm using prelink to speed-up my system and it really works! The only problem is that when i reboot the system everything is back as slow as before prelinking.
Now... i can't prelink everytime i boot the system, can i? I followed the guidelines so i don't think i misconfigured... is this the way it's supposed to be or it's only me?
Thanks for your help, |

Can you post some actual numbers? "It's slower" or "it's faster" doesn't exactly sound very precise... Use the time command when starting a big C++ program like OO.o from a shell command line to measure. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

The system is not particulary slow, it's just that after prelink it's much much faster but the effect vanishes after reboot.
Just wanted to know if it's normal or if i'm doing something wrong. |

It's definitely not normal behavior - but I will not issue any judgment on performance issues without numbers to back things up. "Feeling much faster" can for example mean that a system has slow hard drive I/O but sufficient RAM for the file cache to kick in... _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

Example: if i boot and then i prelink -afmR kde starts in about 10 second against 25, mozilla starts in 1.5 seconds against 5 seconds.
It's just frustrating that i have to prelink every time i boot! If i manually prelink every time i boot everything runs fine but why do i have to lose the good performance when i reboot? Is there a way to avoid that?
P.S.: I'll use the time command asap, i just wanted to tell you more or less how it is. |
