Hello
I need actually to find a backup solution for 15 workstations NT/2000 and 2 servers windows 2000. My luck is i can create a server linux for that =) My only constraint is my backup media must be dvd and that this dvd must be immediately readable (without decompression step).
At this moment, i think to use rsync with cygwin on backup clients and create a repository on linux server. After, i do a simple shell script on server for ripping data on dvd. But i see that more as tinkering . And i'm not sure it's will really easy to manage ( at least for non linux/unix user ) and it's not really user friendly (important if i want put other linux server a day ).
So, if someone know a best solution or want give me his opinion. I will be happy to hear
Thanks |

maybe you should take Unison into consideration.
Didn't use it myself (yet) but it sounds nearly perfect for doing automated backups.

I know amanda by name but i haven't find really good documentation on. I have checked their site and last version backup effectively windows client but by samba :-/ It is not a real improvement on cygwin/rsync in my mind. I will check if amanda manage well dvd media.
I will test unison . At first sight, it's more what i want and natively multi-platform
