startmol -X --cdboot works but the screen looks like hell! I'm booting from the panther install CD and it looks like someone took a blue crayon and scribbled all over the mol window.
If I boot from my OS X partition (upgraded to the latest version) I get the same blue-scribbled startup screen and then mol halts with this error:
Unimplemented store instruction 7C0337EC
I'm running mol in a window; I don't need superfast video and I don't know how to set up modelines or whatever for fullscreen modes. The screen is 1024x768@16bpp on a G4 (daystar upgrade) pismo powerbook. rage128 DRI is enabled, but a little flakey. (Generally, games either work perfectly or are completely unusable. But that's another story.) I have kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r11.

If your colors look weird, then try a diffrent depth in X. I searched the mol-mailing list, and found the answer there.
I think running X in 16bit or 24bit resolved the problem for me. If that does not work try 8/15bit.
I can't get to my PB right now, so you will just have to try _________________ Kind regards, enrique

I finally got MOL working! The problem (in both OS X and Os 9.2.2) was an extension (XLR8MachSpeedControl) that does something with the Daystar G4 upgrade card. It claims to monitor the CPU temp. and to make things run a little faster, but I have not noticed any significant slowdowns since I disabled it.
As for display problems, I just run MOL fullscreen and everything looks fine. Don't really care that things look bad running in a window. |
