Hi,
This week I've installed Gentoo 'stage3-i686_pentium3-1.4_rc1.tar.bz2' twice on my laptop (IBM A20M) and for the life of me I cannot get AA fonts happening. After emerging xfree I have no /etc/X11/XftConfig file which, from what I understand, is the file that sets up AA. I've copied one across fom my desktop (also running Gentoo) but that's not fixing things. I've even installed RedHat 8 just to get an XF86Config file that I know to work properly just in case I was using the wrong video driver but still no luck. I have had Gentoo and AA fonts working perfectly on this laptop before so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with either the current stage3 bundle or perhaps the ati driver in X has changed. I really have no clue what else to try - I've spent hours messing with configurations but somethings definately askew. For example, when I start up xfs I get this error:
Fontconfig error: line 17: not well-formed (invalid token)
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
I could mess around with forever but I'm sensing that it's more than just a small fix and that perhaps I should try an install from stage1 or something.
Has anyone had any similar issues recently?
Many thanks for any info... |

Have you searched thru the Desktop Forum ? I think that most AA issues are reported there. |
