when setting the CFLAGS in make.conf for my Tualatin Celeron (so a pentium 3 with less cache and a 100mhz FSB to what i know) should i use 'pentium2 (celeron)' or 'pentium3'? or should i just do -mcpu instead of -march so it'll work even if i set it too high? _________________ sig_

I'm not sure if it is a P3 or a P4 either, but if you want to be safe jsut use i686, although you may not get as high performance gains. |

Well I've determined to just use pentium3. So other than that I'm using -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer. Should be ok?
edit: and I think i changed the value of CHOST too, and the guide says i should do
Code: | # env-update
# source /etc/profile |
but the env-update doesnt work
edit: and doing
Code: | # mirrorselect -a -s4 -o | grep -ve '^Netselect' >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf |
dumped a html file into my make.conf with the line for the mirror at the end. is that normal? _________________ sig_ |

Nope, but I've heard it happen to more people. You want to get rid of the html or downloading source files will fail.
What mirrorselect should do is append something like this:
Code: | GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.tiscali.nl/pub/mirror/gentoo
http://gentoo.tiscali.nl/gentoo/
http://ftp.gentoo.skynet.be/pub/gentoo/
ftp://ftp.gentoo.skynet.be/pub/gentoo/
http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/
ftp://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/
ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo
ftp://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/gentoo-mirror/
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo
ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo
ftp://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/
ftp://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/
http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo
ftp://vlaai.snt.ipv6.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/ " |
