All week I've been trying to get a 2004.2 LiveCD install started on a Dell PowerEdge 6300. All drives are SCSI, so I need to pass the 'doscsi' option when booting to have access to my cdrom. If I boot without 'acpi=on' the screen goes black while probing for modules (shortly after it pauses for ~5 seconds and loads the aic7xxx module). If I boot with 'acpi=on' everything seems to be fine. All my drives work, I have access to everything. However, halfway through 'emerge sync' my system halts for about a minute and then continues with input/output errors. I've got the system BIOS as well as the SCSI controller firmware upgraded to the latest versions.
At first, I thought this was a Gentoo only problem, but I got the same results from booting Slackware 10 boot disks and loading all required modules. |
