i'm trying to install gentoo on a really old pentium1 box,
i've read through other threads but i just can't figure this out.
i boot with the livecd with the nofb option, all seems well till i get this common error,
BusyBox v1.00-pre7 (2004.05.16-17:48+0000) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
/newroot #
i can't take out any cds from other drives, i only have 1 cd drive.
any help will be really appreciated. |

I lirterally just got that same error trying to boot the livecd on an HP ProLiant BL10e G2 blade. One thig is it's using a USB attached CDROM drive. I don't know if that makes any difference.

i don't know if this matters, or jumpers for that matter, i haven't checked, drive works fine, so i figured its ok. i got this old pc for free from a friend, has win98 on it, i want to get rid of that win98 real fast! all the comps i have run gentoo and very very well. |

I tried some advice from another thread, and attempted to boot like this:
and it worked! Interestingly, if I use
to boot with a 2.6 kernel, it hangs probing for scsi devices. Oh well, I hope that doesn't mean I can't put a 2.6 kernel on this blade.
