Trying to use EAP-MSCHAP v2 w/ wlan-ng

Is there any chance that EAP-MSCHAP v2 authentication can be used with wlan-ng (USB Prism2/3 device) and Gentoo? I'm trying to get access to my school's LAN, so I can't change how it authenticates.

I did find the WPA Supplicant (http://hostap.epitest.fi/wpa_supplicant/), but I'm reluctant to try it because I'd have to use the HostAP stuff and I don't want to run an AP. I also can't figure out if the supplicant provides authentication as if it is an AP, or an end point, or both. I'm really just confused -- this is the first time I've delt with wireless networking.
