this is my server machine

Before:
Pentium 2 400mhz gateway motherboard, 3x 128 ram, 60g 60g 80g hard drives, 300watt ps, pci smc nic, gentoo
everything works perfectly

After:
Pentium 3 450mhz abit bh6, same ram, hd, ps, nic, gentoo
almost everything works.

now i cant upload to this machine using sftp.
it will upload a little bit, then the server will reboot.
i can transfer files between the hard drives just fine, but uploading to any of them via sftp will cause a reboot

i've tried a different ps, different combinations of ram

i compiled gentoo from stage 1 for p2, and now its on a p3, should this be an issue?

any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

No absolutely not!!!

Intel Pentium III is fully backwards compatible with a Intel Pentium II...

Are you still using exactly the same kernel?

Otherwise I would suggestion reverting to the old one, or compiling a new one...

If that's not the case, the first thing I'd look at would be the NIC... Maybe that's having issue with some of the other hardware... Just try to replace it, see if the problem persists...

Also, to be thorough, try to re-emerge ssh, see what happens then...

Good luck,
