|
|
Hi,
I can mount Windows Shares either by smbmount or by a mount entry in my fstab. Works without problems. I can transfer small files, but when I want to tranfer files bigger than 2 or 3 MB the connection stalls and I get an "input/output error" (or so).
I have a /etc/samba/smb.conf (which is empty beause I don't want to run a samba server).
The Windows Shares are provided by Win2k. I don't use any domain.
Hope someone can make any sense of this.

My Gentoo uses DHCP, I have set hostname, dnsdomainname, hosts (whitout the Win2k Computer, but the Router does the DNS from my //win2k/share).
doesn't make a difference if I connect by smbmount with "-o username=xxx, password=yyy, uid=zzz" or with a mount by fstab, which only asks for the Password (its a noauto, user mount).
Username at Gentoo and Win2k are the same, the password is different, but it is asked for every time. The same Shares mounted under SUSE 9.0 (I know, Suwhat) with exactly the same smbmount command works without problems, so its not the Win2k Shares. |

I solved the problem, but don't ask me how.
Search your kernel config for network / samba related problems.
Make sure you have a stable network connection.
If necessary do like I do for really big files (> 2GB): setup a ftp server on the gentoo box (vsftpd for example) and transfer with any ftp client (filezilla is very usable). |

i searched found nothing. i even changed the network card on my production server but no luck. every network connection is working fine but not with samba. |
