Something strange is going on with my gentoo server. The system time is always thrown off-wack for a strange reason. The hardware time, however, is always correct. Does anybody know a way to fix this or possibly sync with another server for time?
Thanks in advance. |

yeah, that's a good way. But this is common problem. I think I've figured it out. First make sure the time is correct when you build your kernel. Make sure you compile in support for RTC. Then in the /etc/rc.conf file, there's an option for clock, set it. Then link /etc/timezone to your actual timezone in /usr/share/zoneinfo. Remove your /etc/adjtime before next reboot.
then as an added option you can use ntp-client to check and adjust your time. I have mine set up to run at boot and then once a day as a cron job.
