I have just finished installing gentoo from a stage3 tarball, I couldnt bootstrap because there was something wrong with the compiler or something.
I boot up the system (not from the live cd) and it dosent want to bring up eth0. The output when I try to bring eth0 is...
Code: | * Bringing eth0 up (192.168.0.2)...
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
* ERROR: Problem starting needed service.
* "netmount" was not started. |
The networking worked fine on the livecd, I am on a compaq armada e500 and got the 2.6.7 kernel.
I have a small home network with no other linux computers, only windows boxes and have everything hooked up to a router.
The unknown interface message maybe means that it cant even find my network card? The little lites are blinking and all. |

looks like you haven't got the right module or your eth0 loaded. please post the output of "lspci" so we see which card you have. note: you might need to compile pciutils before.

Enable "Intel(R) PRO/100+ support" in your kernel:
