Hi all,
I am trying to start Gnome, but I get a fatal server error: cannot work on framebuffer (or something like this, if you need more detail I could be more precise). I am using precompiled packages, and trying to follow Gnome instructions (but I was not able to find the precompiled package for xscreensaver on the packages CD). Any clues? Am I missing something obvious and important?

The error message is given by Xorg X11... could please somebody give me a kick out of this swamp? Also links to more detailed Gnome online installation manuals are appreciated :D

Well this is a pretty wierd bug :)
This might be a stupid question but did you even install xorg? :)
The gentoo manual expains how you should install those 2 quite nicely.

Thanks for the reply :)
I installed Xorg, but actually did not configure it - so now I will read the guides you linked and then proceed to the configuration :D
