|
|
I recently installed Gentoo on my old Sony Vaio PCG-737 and experience some really strange problems with the clock (UTC):
1) I set the correct time. I shut down. (just a plain, ordinary shutdown -h now)
I wait, time passes. When I power on again, there is the correct time set in the BIOS. Linux boots. Now, umm, now isn't quite correct... ...some time is lost, depending on how long it was shut down. However, it is not exactly as much time lost as passed during shutdown...
2) Today is Monday, 9th Day of August, 2004. However date returns:
Tue Aug 9 10:27:43 CEST 2004
How can I fix this? Already read the man pages... ...there seems to be no way to set the correct day of the week?!
thx, georg |

Code: | ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/... /etc/localtime |
Code: | set time to local or UTC in /etc/rc.conf |
remove /etc/adjtime if it exists, I had this problem when I changed timezones
good luck |

What is /etc/adjtime for though and is it really safe to remove?

it is created by /etc/init.d/clock, take a look it is pretty simple, it manipulates "hwclock" to get the system time.
the /etc/adjtime will be created if it doesn't exist by this script, everytime |
