Well, as the name implies, hda1 is the partition map itself. That's how the partition map is stored on PPC. The real partitions start with hda2. Deleting all the other partitions (hda2 to hda5 in your case) effectively wipes out the disk. _________________ Quid latine dictum sit altum videtur |

In other words, you have to keep hda1, there is no option, you will never see it again after you are finished with this step. _________________ ubi primum potero, me hinc subduco. |

is there any option for non-destructive repartitioning of a mac volume other than iPartition?? I want gentoo on my iBook but I dont want to have to reinstall MacOS X if I can avoid it. _________________ Could it be? |

GNU Parted is a free repartitioning tool. On the website however, it says that it doesn't support resizing HFS. I did find this however: http://lists.linux.it/pipermail/ppc/2003-November/000344.html. Maybe HFS resizing has been included in more recent versions of Parted ? In any case, I haven't tried this myself, and i'd advise you to backup your important data before using it (hmm.. also do the backup even if you use iPartition). (i don't know whether parted is included on the ppc livecd) |

Eh.... what do you want to use the firewire for? What exactly do you mean with "running over ethernet"? If you have linux running on the mac and also an ssh-server, yeah, then you can login over ethernet in the mac and run parted remotely. Do you already have a livecd, and does it include parted? If it doesn't have parted, and you don't have a lot of experience with linux, then it's probably best to try to use iPartition...? |
