What log would possibly give me some more information why my wireless pcmcia lan card won't come up?

(I had a lan card working first so i know that the pcmcia/kernel stuff is fine)

Don't have a /var/log/messages.

I have /var/log/kernel/current and /var/log/everything/current.

Is there supposed to be a /var/log/messages in gentoo?
