startup script format

Hi,

I wanted to know if Gentoo is more BSD or System V style based in terms of their startup scripts (rc.d and stuff). I come from slackware linux and I like their clean format compared to other distributions like redhat and mandrake. So those of you particularly familiar with slackware could probably better answer the question...
