I want the torsmo window a little bit bigger, cause i cant see the ram bar, but i dont want the torsmo window going to my dock (where the icons are)

So i just want to knopw to define the torsmo window size

You can also change the width of the bar in torsmo 0.18:
Code:
${membar <height>,<width>}

does somebody have root-tail and torsmo with double_buffer running?
when torsmo runs with double buffering the root-tail display disappears short after start.
without double buffering both run fine, but the flicker realy bothers me.

Anybody find a solution/work around for the 2.6.10 kernel issues (temp & fan returning only first poll value)? I've done a little troubleshooting here but not really getting anywhere. It's not a lm-sensors problem as running sensors gives the correct info. I've checked the i2c files is sys and they are indeed updated with the changing correct info. Running strace on torsmo reveals it's reading the file but always returning the info from the first poll. This is a little beyond me...

any official solution for this? I would prefer a patch instead ob the workaround with the script ...

Hipo knows this issue and I think he's working on it! He already knows _what_ produces this error so we have just to wait and say "thank you!" to him eheh...
In the meantime use this workaround (I use my own script, similar to the other posted here).. and stay tuned for a new release ;)

Excuse my lateness but thanks for posting Jack_Mort, as mentioned above I was trying to avoid the script solution. For now I'll just stick to running 2.6.9.

a patch was written, its on the list of patches on my faq, and its in the (updated) ebuild.

look for it on the faq:
http://www.sover.net/~ljohnstn/torsmo_faq.txt

im really busy so i cant update the wiki page, it takes too much time, so if you want the updated one you have to go to my official text version.

First off, thank you for the excelent patches people :)

And then the possibly stupid question: why don't all ttf-fonts function with torsmo? For example from corefonts I can only get basic arial and webdings to work.

Well I just switched from the torsmo-cvs version from earlier in the thread to the 0.18 in portage, and I love having double buffering (thanks!) despite the bugs (since I don't use root-tail or desktop icons, it's fine with me) but I can't seem to get xft fonts to work at all with 0.18. Anyone else having this problem?

Add this to your .torsmorc and comment out the old "font" line:
Code:
use_xft yes
xftfont bitstream vera sans-7
#font -*-bitstream vera sans-medium-r-*-*-11-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Works with both 0.18 and cvs version on my computer.

My .torsmorc with the comments stripped and my setup line at the end removed for clarity. When I run torsmo-cvs with this, it says it doesn't recognize the options 'use_xft' and 'double_buffer' (which makes sense) and then I get a nice torsmo display.
Code:
use_xft yes
double_buffer yes
xftalpha 0.8
background no
xftfont urw gothic l-13
mail_spool $MAIL
update_interval 5.0
own_window no
minimum_size 280 5
draw_shades no
draw_outline no
draw_borders no
stippled_borders 8
border_margin 4
border_width 1
default_color black
default_shade_color black
default_outline_color black
alignment bottom_left
gap_x 12
gap_y 12
no_buffers yes
uppercase no

When I run torsmo (the 0.18 version) I get:

Code:
torsmo: Xft not enabled
torsmo: drawing to root window
torsmo: drawing to double buffer

If I change use_xft to 'no', then I don't get the line about xft not being enabled. XFT *is* enabled, as it works with torsmo cvs. I just tried a sudo /etc/init.d/xfs start to make sure, and the service has already been started (as expected).

Bug?

I'd also like to make a 'feature' request that dynamically changing numbers (such as proc usage) are padded with a blank space when they're a single digit.

I use torsmo with two long lines across the bottom of my screen, and everything gets moved back and forth as the proc usage jumps from 8% to 12%. It gets annoying.

do you know any C?

maybe take a look at it, i started looking at this (and worked out a minor patch) without any C knowlege, so if you know a little you might be able to crack something up...

you would probably want to correct a lot of things though... like with cpu usage, etc, anything that can vary rapidly, so mayb eit isnt a good idea

ok, im really tired, i have to go to sleep before i make any more worthless comments

How do you go about writing patches? Something like extra spaces in front of certain numbers seems fairly easy to do.

i just stumbled over the same issue today. See Bug #78239
I submitted a fixed ebuild which hopefully solves the problem.

xfs has nothing todo with xft afaik. The first is a font server and the latter a font renderer :)

D'oh! My ability to discern different letters appears to be lacking :p. Thanks for the ebuild. I get the following:
Code:
 * Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!  Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
 *
 *   /usr/local/portage/app-admin/torsmo/files/torsmo-0.18.xwin.patch
 *   ( torsmo-0.18.xwin.patch )

I assume the patch is somewhere in this thread so I should be able to find it and dump it where needed, but thought you might want to know any bugs in your ebuild.

[edit] It's in my /usr/portage/app-admin/torsmo/files directory, so I just copied it over to my /usr/local/portage/app-admin/torsmo/files dir and I'm good to go. Thanks :).

So now the only problems I have are the lack of padding in numbers and that now the CPU usage % sometimes spikes to about 102% under high load . It used to sit at 99% under full load, but now it can apparently go over the top a bit. No biggie, but I thought it might be easy to fix.

I'm going to take a look at adding the padding to the numbers, but no promises because this will be my first attempt at patching anything. Anyone with some experience please take a look since you should be able to do this 10X faster than me.

Separate question (unrelated to 0.18, DB, etc.): how do you get Torsmo to stop jumping? It's not flickering, it's just that when the CPU usage goes from 0% to 10%, the bottom line gets longer, so the top line also gets longer to accomodate the bottom one. Easy fix is...?

This is what I'm asking about. The 0% needs padding of two spaces added in front, and any two digit number needs one padded space in front, so if it hits 100%, the line is still the same length. Should be easy, but I think it might still be beyond me :(.

use the minimum_size setting in the .torsmorc file found in your home directoy. set the horizontal just high enough to keep it from resizing itself when the numbers get bigger.

I don't have a minimum size setting documented? How do I use it? My .torsmorc:
Code:
TEXT
${color rgb:ce/df/e7}$nodename - $sysname | $kernel | $machine
${color rgb:ce/df/e7}CPU $cpu % | $memperc % RAM | $fs_free_perc % free fs | $running_processes proc

its farther up in the .torsmorc... look at the sample...
its something like "minimum size 10 10" (thats my values, modify for your taste.)

cp the file you are going to fix.

then edit it... save it.. so youre left with a torsmo.c and a torsmo_new.c (or soemthign like that, just make sure the original has the original name)

then you do a
Code:
diff -u oldfile.c newfile.c > some.patch

then the person would just (in the dir that has the file oldfile.c) do a "patch < some.patch" (*not to sure about the applying, havent done this stuff in monthes.. but the making the patch im pretty sure about*)

anyway, that should give you a start
