Unfortunately, no. Go buy yourself an nvidia card.

I thought Xorg was compatible with Xfree 4.3.0 Drivers?
They work fine with Xfree 4.3.0 so in this case it might not be ATI's fault, thogh of course you are right, nvidia has atm better linux support

ati released the 3.12 early because they were meant to add xorg 6.8 support... not that they do, heh

The CVS version of xcompmgr has been updated. The fade effect is now much more stable. It also has additional options, like not drawing shadows around docking panels, fade transluceny effect (from opaque to more transparent, or vice-versa).

It also seems more stable all-around.

Try it! It's nice

To the one who modified the shadows: could you please sync your code to the current CVS version if possible? :D

Hi Mikki (p40)

Quote:
Hi All,

Just emerged xorg-x11-6.8.0 and then ran dispatch-conf. I noticed that it changed the keyboard driver in my X11/xorg.conf, but nothing else in that file. It did change a number of other configuration and script files (around 22 of them).

Well, as soon as started X (startx) my screen is now tiny, perhaps as small as 1/6 of its normal 1024x768 size, giving me an almighty eye strain trying to write this message.

Had the same problem when I installed xorg-x11-6.7.99.904 with my AIW Radeon 32
I had to force DDC mode to get the driver to get a proper mode line.

Heres snip from my xorg.conf
Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "AIWRadeon"
Driver "radeon"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "true"
Option "AGPMode" "4"
Option "DPMS" "on"
Option "DDCMode" "on"
EndSection

Hope it helps if you hav'nt sorted it yet

Ok, I've downloaded the CVS version, and patched it. You can find it here

Just unpack (tar -xvjf xcompmgr-blubber-0.1.1.tar.bz2) and run make.

Have fun! :)

It seems that the lucida* fonts are broken in 6.8.0 (sept. 8 release)

From Xorg.0.log:

Code:
X Window System Version 6.8.0
Release Date: 8 September 2004
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.8
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.8.1 x86_64 [ELF]

lucida* is shown in the fonts.alias in /usr/share/fonts/100dpi and /usr/share/fonts/75dpi.

Copy of my "FontPath" section from xorg.conf:

Code:
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/misc/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/TTF/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/CID/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/local/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/Speedo/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/TrueType/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/freefont/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/arphicfonts/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/artwiz/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/baekmuk-fonts/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/corefonts/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/freefont/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/ghostscript/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/lfp-fix/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/lfpfonts-var/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/mplus/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/sharefonts/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/terminus/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/ukr/"
    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/urw-fonts/"

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Since updating to 6.8.0, I'm back to not being able to start Win4Lin. The only way it will try to start at all is to give the commands "export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1" "win" from the terminal window. It gets as far as the login. After the login, I get nothing. It just sits there with the blue screen. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not getting any help so far from the Win4Lin mailing list.

If I disable by commenting out:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
Option "RENDER" "Enable"
EndSection

and

Section "Device"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"

Then Win4Lin will start just as it should. That is the only way I can get it to start.

Edit: Nevermind. If you get this error run ./configure.

This xcompmgr thing makes firefox freak out and everything else slow as hell. I'm guessing its because im using "nv" instead of "nvidia". I cant get nvidia to work. :(

cheers, raist.

Anyone know why my Fluxbox windows don't raise when I click on them with X.Org 6.8 and why fbsetbg -l crashes the desktop when used in conjunction with xcompmgr?

DDC takes a couple of extra seconds but at least it works. Not sure why xorg-6.8.0 won't read my previous xorg.conf settings. :?

There's a bug in the slit. To fix it change slit layer to desktop: Configure -> Slit -> Layer -> Desktop.

Speaking of the Fluxbox slit, does anyone know why my slit has a transparent background by default, and always shows in the top left rather than where I tell it to go?

The background is transparent even if xcompmgr isn't running, but the problem goes away if I disable the extensions.

make: *** [World] Error 2

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 592, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

The only way I could fix this was to get the content of directory
'xc/doc/hardcopy' from XOrg's CVS repository, see:
http://freedesktop.org/bin/view/XOrg/Home#CVS

So I did the following:

Code:

mkdir /tmp/xorg
cd /tmp/xorg
cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg login
                (CVS password: <hit return>)
cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -P -rXORG-6_8_0 xc

Then I opened a second shell and started emerging Xorg. As soon
as the extraction of source code was finished (and while portage
was still working!!!), I switched back to the first shell and did:

Code:

mkdir /var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.8.0/work/xc/doc/hardcopy
cp -R /tmp/xorg/xc/doc/hardcopy/* /var/tmp/portage/xorg-x11-6.8.0/work/xc/doc/hardcopy

Not very elegant really, but at least it worked. Wonder why this problem happened at all...

Code:
Option "RENDER" "Enable"

Should never be needed, as far as I've heard. I don't know of any situations in which you need to specifically enable render (and if it's not enabled, xcompmgr won't run, so you'll know).

I don't know where the 'Option "RENDER"' thing started, but basically it does nothing.

DPMS seems to be the cause of many of the crashes. Try adding this to your .xinitrc

Code:
xset -dpms

It disables DPMS completely. I think it solved my problem (running for over 30 minutes, a record for me).

It happened because docs were not downloaded. The new 6.8.0 seems to have two more files than 6.7.0 and sometimes you must set USE="doc" to emerge them otherwise it fails to emerge. Try to emerge with USE="doc" next time and you should see it downloading the two missing zips.

It works pretty fine here w/ wm... (nvidia proprietary drivers; xcompmgr or xcompmgr -s; w/ xcompmgr -c shadows are impressive, but transseting becomes too buggy...)...

With fluxbox, for me, things didn't work so well...

cheers
