Hey.
When I do a 'slocate -u' my RAM (512mb) seems to fill up. The XFCE panel monitor shows an increase from a little over 100mb to around 330mb.
Is this normal? How can I free up this RAM again without restarting?
Thanks for any input. |

IainCE,
The kernel will free it when its required for something else.
Linux uses all of memory by default. When you need some the Virtual Memory manager makes a priority call and either flushes some dirty buffers or swaps to make memory available.
Don't wory about it - its normal.
You will find whereis is very fast becuase the slocate database is in memory. _________________ Regards,
