Hello, i have 233 sub notebook that i want to install gentoo on, don't really want to put X on it, though it has run it before, just want to stick to console apps.

I know i can get links working as gui and midnight commander does gui, just wondering what other apps i can run with gui from console that don't need X.

list so far.

Hi, I don't quite remember the names, but I know that there are pdf and dvi viewers that run in the console (with svgalib, I believe).

You can also compile Gtk to use either DirectFB or the framebuffer instead of X. I had success using DirectFB but couldn't get it to compile for the framebuffer. Either way though, you can then compile Gtk apps to run in the console.

Hope this helps,
Nathan
