Hey all, sitting here at work and I began wondering if most of you guys frequent the forums from work at home at school? If from work what do you do? Stupid I know, but I was curious. _________________ The realOTW: http://forums.realotw.org/index.php

well i work at 1st line support wich means that I get to solve all the tedious problems with customers having configured their win95 wrong and such.. not that much fun really.. good thing it's just a temporary job 'til i'm done with school.. thinking of working as an admin in unix environment.. I have a friend who does that and it seems pretty cool. _________________ Where we're going.. we don't need roads.. |

Weve got quite a few production servers running Solaris. If youre not used to unix it isnt that bad, just linux really is a lot more "user friendly" - I.e using vi in linux opposed to unix is apples and oranges. We handle (my group) all of the backend administration for our webhosting platform which consists mainly of Redhat (some version or another, standard & enterprise configs). It can be pretty interesting. We also deal (not often) w/ IIS as well. I'd like to find a job where i could play with exclusively *nix but as of yet, no go. Good luck. (oh, we also do a little networking, LOL)
And btw - I did tier1 support for a while when I was in school, I feel ur pain! LOL
I once was walking a customer thru configuring OE and we got the screen where it prompts her for her name, so I said "enter your name", she replied "how do I spell that?" . . .sigh. _________________ The realOTW: http://forums.realotw.org/index.php

I'm doing my second year at 6th form now (ages 16 - 18), then I'm planning to go to Uni, so I'm not going to be working full time for a living for a while yet. And unfortunately I can't browse the forums from school because they're blocked. :S _________________ - I

I'm studying for my PhD in Computer Science at the moment. I also get paid to write websites for other departments in my spare time (ColdFusion sucks!), to make ends meet.

I'm a student studying Engineering (General for the first 2 years then I'll probably specialise in Electronics in 3rd and 4th year) at Cambridge Uni, UK.
I am working at Altair Engineering (www.uk.altair.com) at the moment for work experience. It's a good laugh and I've been helping with CAE of a couple of cars coming out in 2006! Top fun! _________________ AMD64 3200+, 1024MB RAM, Gentoo Linux

I work as a helpdesk night shift person for a healthcare company, answering pleas for help from doctors and nurses and such.
It's normally pretty quiet here during the night shift, so I listen to music and write, usually. |

Yep, this one comes up every now and then. I'm still a Registered Nurse and most of my browsing is when I'm off. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once. |

i'm a unix op in a major corporation in the US. it's a pretty dull job but it gives me time to do training and hopefully refine my skills into something else. i'm slowly noticing that i'm now almost ALWAYS on these forums, being that they block ssh and any form of chat client. but hey i try to help where i can. _________________ #include <LinuxUser #324070>

I study computer sciences.
I applied for tech support at an ISP, but they don't employ people directly. You have to get in via an agency. I hate agencies. _________________ we are microsoft, lower your firewalls and surrender your pc's. we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. your culture will adapt and service us. resistance is futile. |

believe it or not Boris27 now-a-days, at least in the Austin, you have to go through an agency to get your foot in the door, but then only after three months the company hires you on full time....well in my case anyway. _________________ #include <LinuxUser #324070>
