help me get sound.
i set the ALSA_CARDS varialbe to au8830 and have snd_au8830 compiled into my kernel as a module and alsa is compiled as a module. in the past this has proven the only way to go.
i emerged alsa-lib, utils, oss. alsa mixer only listed controls from my bt87x tv card. so i ran moduels update and restarted alsasound. now no controls are listed.
Code: | bash-2.05b$ alsamixer
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
bash-2.05b$ amixer
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device

i'm using udev. i modified /etc/modules.d/alsa as intstructed in the guide.
[code]
bash-2.05b# /etc/init.d/alsasound restart
* WARNING: you are stopping a boot service.
* Unloading ALSA...
* Storing ALSA Mixer Levels
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1061: No soundcards found...
* Unloading modules [ ok ]

* Loading: snd-mixer-oss
* Loading: snd-pcm-oss
* Loading: snd-seq-oss
* Running card-dependent scripts
* Restoring Mixer Levels [ ok ]
bash-2.05b#
[code]
udev is worse then devfs and lists 1500 devices in dev... devfs only listed 1000. in anycase you can be sure i have a /dev/sound or /dev/snd and many more things in /dev due to udev.
edit, i fixed it. i ran modules-update a second time and that did it. not sure why, but who cares. |
