I had a sudden and huge drop in harddrive performance. Using hdparm, I had the timing buffered disk read drop from about 22 MB/sec to about 4 MB/sec. I only ran the check after I noticed a huge increase in loading time for programs. What could have caused this? I checked the flags on hdparm and they are the same as before. What could I have changed or messed up>?

I figured it out and it is related to that. I was trying a new kernel and for some reason I turned some of the IDE options off. I tried an old compiled kernel I had and the hard drive performance was fine. I turned some of the options on in the new kernel that I had in the old kernel and things worked out fine. |
