Hi
I've been trying to install gentoo for the last couple of days with kernel 2.6.7 and have had difficulties installing my network mainly due to the fact that a module for my nic (ActionTec Fast Ethernet Cardbus PC Card) does not exist on the new 2.6.x kernels but does and works fine on 2.4 kernel(LiveCD). Oh and for your knowledge we're talking about the tulip_cb module. Now I want to use the 2.6.x kernel 'cause of its better stack handling or something, don't remember what it ws but it's suppose to be alot faster and wireless networking support is much greater, and now the sarcastic part I use wireless at my school where I would like to use 2.6 but I only have cable at my home where it seems I need to have 2.4 kernel. I can get my orinoco card to work with the 2.4 kernel but the process has been a big pain in the ass. What do you recomend I do

P.S.
If you have gotten a tulip_cb module to work on 2.6 and could post and howto I would be a very happy man. Also the 2.4 kernel on the LiveCD loads i82365 bridge module for my network. I've found this module in the 2.6 kernel tree and compiled it but when I try and load it w/modprobe it spits out "Fatal error: /path/to/module No such device"

What to do, what to do?

Well, the "easy" way to find out what hardware options to compile into a kernel is to use genkernel, boot up that, make sure everything works, and then do an lsmod to find out which modules it loaded. Then go back and compile your kernel with those modules.

I can't think of any hardware that is supported in 2.4 that is not supported in 2.6, however, some of the module names have changed, so you might try this.
