As long as you are running descent XFree, I mean 4.x and better 4.3, the answer is no. Latest xorg didn't any significant changes to the X server. They are extected in new xorg release, but I'm afraid various shadows, transparencies, etc will need much more than 233 mhz.

SHOULD you? Yes.

CAN you? No.

Your specs and hard drive space are very unrealistic.

He can, it'll take some time but it's doable, I've already done it with less hard disk space and processor speed. Though I'd certainly recommend using distcc for this...

I thought Xorg needed more than a gig just for build space?

One gig should do, though just barely.

i thought that an xorg/xfree emerge does not make use of distcc?

Most of the time it didn't it seemed, though I had the impression it had used distcc at certain point, this is speculation though as I didn't watch my logs while installing on that machine...

Actually, to be specific, xorg will use distcc, but only one job (even if you have -j n set in /etc/make.conf). So, for this particular instance, distcc will help, by offloading the compilation to a (hopefully) faster host.

To make sure it works, just list the fastest host first in your distcc hosts list, like so:

Code:
distcc-config --set-hosts "fasthost okhost localhost"

Have fun!
