I have a problem with my new digicam. Under Windows it works perfectly, but Linux isn't even able to see it. When I plug the USB-cable to the camera and turn the camera on in play-mode, it doesnt work. dmesg doesn't show that I have plugged the camera. Although my USB-stick works under Linux perfectly. Weird. I am using gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7.

You need to emerge gphoto2 and hotplug. Gphoto2 is the driver for it, hotplug handles the loading of needed modules when plugged in. Than plug in your camera, set it to play mode, turn on. You should see it in dmesg.

Now, emerge gtkcam or digikam. I use digikam, I can browse the pictures with it very easily.

I had the same problem, it *SHOULD* work as root, but I'm not sure. Check and see....

Try going here
http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/doc/manual/permissions-usb.html and follow 4.3.2 very closely. Any qustions reply in this thread or send me a PM.
