Ok, I set up UML on a Gentoo host using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r13 and skas-patch. When I'm using the prebuild umlbuildroot-root_fs from sourceforge it boots without errors. I also tested virtual ethx via tuntap and it worked great.
So I started building my own gentoo-root_fs as described in the "Gentoo Linux Developer's guide to system testing with User-Mode-Linux"
Annoyingly my gentoo-uml complains about missing vc's and hangs after starting local.
I suppose this has something do to with my host box running no X11 (and i definitely not going to install it).
I already removed xterm support from the uml-kernel wich is 2.4.24-r9.

Any suggestions?

Here is what I get when i try booting uml:

To solve the hangup, append:

con0=fd:0,fd:1 con=pts

to your options. You will also need to modify /etc/inittab (on the root_fs) to have ttys/X instead of ttyX. An example line from my inittab is below:

c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 ttys/0 linux

I currently have no idea how to solve the vc problems.

From the selinux-UML guide:

Quote:
The only errors you see on startup should be along the lines of Couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console from setfont and keymaps. These errors are harmless, but if you want to get rid of them, do the following:

Code Listing 3.7: Removing cosmetic errors
# rc-update del keymaps
# rc-update del consolefont

That should get rid of the other errors.
