|
|
I had KDM and KDE up and running before I installed the nvidia drivers, and I followed the exact instructions at: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/desktop.xml
Now when I type startx, I get a flashing screen then the following:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
I have a Geforce 2 Ultra, 64mb... I really don't know what to try now because it just said in the installation to check and see if startx starts up but doesn't say anything afterwards if it doesn't so I'm left to ask you fine folks! |

Try insering Option "NvAGP" under Device Try with 0, 1 and 2.
Code: |
Section "Device"
Identifier "GeForce4 TI 4200"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "NvAGP" "2"
Screen 0

make sure you are using:
Driver "nvidia"
also uncomment:
Load "glx"
at the top of the /etc/X11/XF86Config file |

I'm using, "Driver "nvidia", and I've uncommented "Load "glx". |

Hey I typed modprobe NVdriver and it went into X with no problems, when I reboot will I have to modprobe NVdriver again? How would I avoid having to do that? |

I rebooted and I again was required to modprobe NVdriver to get into X, so I added, "NVdriver" to /etc/modules.autoload
Is the the correct solution or am I setting myself up for a bomb? hah
It does work :] |

It is a workaround for a problem, that seem to come with the latest update for baselayout. Something with the devfs seems to go wrong. For some more discussion about this problem look here:

But don't fear, your way will not harm your system...
