I'm currently using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11.
What are the proper steps to update to 2.6.8?
Do i just have to emerge the new kernel, compile it, copy it to /boot, change the grub.conf, and everything will be fine?
I'm loading Alsa as module, and lm_sensors for grkellm2.

Do I have to reconfigure/recompile them or how does that work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Mat

You can copy your old .config file into the new kernel sources, and then run make menuconfig. You can then see if there are any new options you want, and then compile, copy et cetera. That way you won't have to go hunting around for all your old settings, which should save some time and frustration. :D

Thanks for your help:

So the kernel modules will get installed with make modules_install
and should be working fine after a reboot?
