If it's connected directly to a LAN, then chances are you could ping it directly, using the printer's network name as the hostname.
You'll need some kind of print service. CUPS is very common and can be used as a client and as a host. As a client, you need only install it. Little or no configuration is required if there's a cups server running that will accept connections from your client.
would be worth a try. It would list any printers an the network, provided the client can find a print server. The default CUPS installation will try for a CUPS server.
If there's no cups server, you might need to do a bit more work. Rather than try to help by imagnation only, let us know if you can get any network response from a selected printer. |
