I have an oldworld PPC UMAX C500 (603e chip). When I use the vmlinux and initrd.img included on the 1.2-r1 ISO it hangs right after displaying:

Serial driver version 5.05c (2001-07-08) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI

I had debian on here at one time so I know it's good for Linux.

Machine has 128MB of memory and a 4 GB SCSI hard drive.

In BootX the Ramdisk size is set to 26000
More kernel arguments is set to rw

I've tried the No video driver option, Force SCSI ON, Force vdeo Settings and use specified RAM Disk set to the initrd.img

Anyone know how to fix this? Is the vmlinux/initrd.img the same in the 1.4 beta iso? Maybe I'll give that a whirl instead.

Thanks,
Kevin

I found the old 1.2 (no -r1) version of the iso and used the vmlinux and initrd.img from that (from ftp.sunsite.dk I believe). Seems to be working. I'm filing a bug against this.

Just for grins I'm gonna try the vmlinux from the 1.2 release and the initrd.img from 1.2-r1 see if i can get that running.

Oh and I tried 1.4 beta, the vmlinux/initrd.img from the boot folder hangs too. The bootx installer crashes (error is it is unable to find a folder specified). Crash is after extension & app are installed and after Linux Kernels folder gets created. I figure it's looking for the kernel to copy into the Linux Kernels folder?

I have just encountered the same error on a Power Mac 8600/250 with 128MB ram and 2x 4GB disks

Yep, this is indeed an issue. We are looking into getting this fixed asap, but for now using the older kernel will work.

I manually threw the vmlinux from the 1.2-r1 ISO into the Linux Kernels folder, but didn't use initrd.img for BootX, and got to the installer no probs.
