has anyone tried to install 1.4rc1 on the sparc 5 170mhz? i'm really want to install gentoo on my sparc, but i don't really know where to start? I was looking for the ISO's and I can't seem to find it for 1.4rc1. Should I used an earlier release? |

You don't need a brand new install ISO to get the latest gentoo onto your sparc5, you just need to be able too boot a linux cd (any sparc distro should do), and grab a fresh copy of the portage-tree from somewhere, either using rsync or http from the daily portage-dump.
Make sure your /etc/make.profile symlink points to the correct profile, which in this case should be /usr/portage/profiles/default-sparc-1.4.
I've successfully used an old gentoo 1.1a sparc image, and even debian images.
Of course, having previous experience with gentoo i a bonus, as the install procedure is a bit tricky. It's gotten better now with the SPARC install guide, though. _________________ --

...you also need to grab at least a stage1 tarball for sparc32 and untar that onto your destination drive.
But the SPARC install guide explains all this. _________________ --
