|
|
I installed udev, leaving devfs compiled into the gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11 kernel, but using gentoo=nodevfs in grub.
Now when I boot I lose my keyboard completely, so cannot log in. It is a MS natural ps2.
Hoping someone can help..
Be glad to post any configs, just not sure what at this point. Perhaps it is just an adjustment I need to make to xorg.conf?
[Edit]Wouldn't be xorg because no keyboard before I start X .
I have another kernel - 2.6.8-love-sources - that I can boot to on the same harddrive - that is how I have been trying to tweak the keyboard back to life by playing around with the 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 kernel config. It must be something in the kernel, no? Because I'm at the prompt where you would log in before startx. Or something that is pretty basic.[/Edit]
cheers, Hunky

Well, I found out what was causing the keyboard to be lost at booting (but not a fix, really):
I have a Dell monitor that has usb outlets on the monitor. I run a usb cable up from the Abit IS7 motherboard usb port to the monitor and then the monitor acts as a usb hub. When I run Suse, it would find the card reader that I have plugged into the monitor just fine.. a little icon would pop up on the desktop of the device.
But with it plugged into the monitor, and firing up gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11, then I lose the keyboard. I can plug the cardreader into the motherboard ports and not have this problem. It also does not occur with love-sources or nitro sources kernels, (but I cannot get my hard drive DMA working with those kernels - so I am avoiding them).
So the problem is reshaped.. I will try to go ahead with udev now and see if I can get that working, but would love to be able to still use my monitor usb hub. So any ideas along those lines?
cheers, Hunky |

this is not a solution, just a workaround.
i had that problem with my mouse... sometimes, the mouse wasn't detected on boot. the only way i could get it to work was to unplug the cable that comes from the MoBo to the monitor, and them plug it in again. |
