I've seen comments in the forum that people have it and are using it, but, I cannot find it on any of the mirrors I've looked at. They all, so far, have this README.hmtl that says
"There is no official Gentoo/PPC release for 2004.2 on this mirror.
Please check the Gentoo/PPC team webpage for more information."

Anyone know the story behind this?

TIA,

cayenne

The upload of the ISO files was too slow, so that it didn't became official.

Nevertheless, the files are online at http://www.metadistribution.org/gentoo/2004.2/ or ftp://ftp2.stw-bonn.de/pub/mirror/gentoo/releases/ppc/2004.2/ and via bittorrent.

I can't make it sticky as I don't have the rights for this forum.

But I updated the gentoo-ppc-handbook with some information about 2004.2.

Oh - that's a strange argument. People might believe that Gentoo has given up on PPC. Why don't you upload the ISO's now and make it official???

There are some rules in this distribution. We tried to pull in the 2004.2 release, but releng was against it.

Yes it is a pity. But we look forward and are already working on 2004.3!

Hi,

Since the gentoo infrastructure team was at LWE/SF 2004, and the ppc release was one day late (because the server from which I had to upload it was /.'ed because of the gentoo/macos release announcement), the ppc releases didn't make it to all the mirrors yet.

The official plan was to stage another 'mirror sync' a few weeks after the release, when ppc64 is released as well (any time now).

2004.2 for ppc is the first gentoo architecture to jump on the X-enabled livecd boat (a 2004.3 feature for all the other gentoo archs). We have an updated kde/gnome cd again, there's a liveDVD floating around somewhere too (bittorrent only). It wasn't announced because it isn't on the mirrors yet, but it's out there somewhere (mostly on the german mirrors, and of course my own: http://www.metadistribution.org/gentoo/ ) :-)

2004.3 for ppc will most likely have gcc-3.4.1, udev, (scoop: ppc64 2004.2 release is the first gentoo release to have udev as default, ppc64 is very close to gold master right now).

What's on the kde-gnome-universal-2004.2.iso? Precompiled versions of gnome & kde? If so which?

I'm having problems with the stage3-g3 (2oo4.2). Tried it from the universal CD and downloading it. Is this a konwn bug or am I missing something?
