hey gang,

I've been using mandrake linux for a couple months now, I'm just overall fed up by the fact that it wont take the source code apps and install them nicely.. I'm very much interested in Gentoo Linux.. but I'm still very much a linux newb...

I tried installing it all myself with a stage 3 tarball, but I'm completely lost in the configurations and modules.. I'm not afraid to roll my sleeves up and learn something new (heck I'm trying to run linux! proof enough i think) but I would very much like to have someone to chat with via aim, yahoo, msn etc.. to help me with the configurations...

I'm also wonodering if I need to go through the entire install in one shot, or if i can turn the computer off.. give myself a break from time to time, only to turn the computer back on and resume right where I left off..

if anybody would be interested in guiding me through the configuration files via instant messenging..

yahoo - rflet86
aim - rflet2003
msn - rflet86@hotmail.com

ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I'm also having a few problems with the installation.

If anyone would be interested in helping me, I'm on Yahoo Messenger right now with `` i_am_interface_lolol '' and AIM with `` kickformoney987 '' and I'm willing to try anything.

I've tried installing it at least seven times in the past few days and every time some new problem comes up.

I don't know what happened to my AIM, but I lost my connection with the server and couldn't reconnect.

I figured out pretty much everything, except my eth0.

I configured it for the install, and it worked, but when I was all finished and rebooted, it stopped on shutting down eth0 and I haven't been able to access the internet since I rebooted.

Since I can't use net-setup anymore, is there a way to configure eth0 while in my environment? Or must I go through the whole process again?

You can use net-setup still. Boot into the live CD, mount your drives and chroot /mnt/gentoo; env-update. You will then be in your enviroment and be able to net-setup eth0

What does ifconfig eth0 return? You dont really need to use net-setup, you can edit your interface settings directly in /etc/conf.d/net
