I know i'm a newbe with gentoo but i don't understand because, and i have done all what say the guide, during this step:

tar -xvjpf stage3-i686-2004.2.tar.bz2

during the decompression it stops when arrive to ./root/.keep with the following message:

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

which ones??

I have also tried with the same file from the CDlive...
thanks in advance and sorry for my english...

That 'exit delayed' isn't necessarily a problem; /root/.keep almost certainly isn't necessary, and if it can't extract it (and therefore is giving you that message) you don't need to worry about it.

What you should worry about is if something didn't get extracted; can you tell if it failed on anything else?

sinceraly i didn't continue with installation because i did'n know if it was the last file to decompress... so do you tell me that i can go on with the next step (Portage)?

Try to extract it again.. I would suggest adding "| less" to the command line and watching the output if it fails on a .keep file, you're fine... Go ahead with the install. If it fails on anything else, download the stage tarball again.
