see the note in the changelog.

emerge --pd --changelog gentoo-dev-sources (or whatever kernel you're doing)

Frankly, I like supermount alot...
What are the substitution options?
The ChangeLog mentions udev as an option, but from what I've read on udev it doesn't seem to provide the same automount and autounmount capabilities.

gnome-volume-manager seems to be masked by package.mask - so I assume there are still problems with that too... BTW: does it behave the same with CDROM drives and floppies as supermount?

Till I find a comparable substitution I'll better stay with 2.6.7...

You can use submount as a replacement for supermount.
It easy to use, you don't need to patch your kernel and there's
an ebuild for it (sys-fs/submount)
I used it with previous 2.6 kernel and it worked perfectly but i did not
tested it with 2.6.8

Just be careful with the existing ebuild as it compiles for current running
kernel and not the one pointed by /usr/src/linux

I also read about magicdev as a replacement of supermount. But I don't use it, so I can't tell you more.
