Live cd 2004.2 can't boot up one of my compters, but can boot all others.

The old live cd 1.4 rc 1 works well on all my computers.

Does this mean the new 2004.2 live cd support less CD drives????

I doubt it - what happens when you try and boot off it?

The BIOS is responsible for booting off the CD, and you don't need any drivers or software to get that first boot. You DO need drivers to subsequently read off of the CD once booting has started.

So, if it's not even TRYING to boot of the CD, it could be because that particular CDROM doesn't like that particular CD, CDR manufacturer, CD color, etc etc.

Try re-burning 2004.2 onto a different manufacturers CD, otherwise let us know what error your getting during boot.

I set BIOS to use CD ROM boot up first, and Live CD 1.4rc1 boot OK, but 2004.2 not.

The Machine is quite old one(PIII 500): Motherboard is marked as something like "6ABX2V" (google said probably from a manufacturer called "lucky-star"), the newest BIOS i found is AWARD "6ABX2V-G2" (04/07/2000).

The cd drive is called "BCD E520C", quoted from XP device manager.

When I boot this machine with 2004.2 Live CD, the screen DID show that the machine tried CD first, but boot failed, then went to HD boot up procedure. AND the old Live CD 1.4rc1 does not have this problem.

Looks like 2004.2 Live CD I burned should be OK because it works on all my other machines

I digged out a similar discussion back to April
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=137391&highlight=boot+live+cd
they suggested using UNIVERSAL CD.

Isn't x86 2004.2 Live CD (minimal) a UNIVERSAL CD for all X86 machines? Do I really need to try that big one (605M)?

The 605M UNIVERSAL one works :D

Now my question is what DIFFERENCE between the minimal (80M) and universal (605M) during the boot procedure?
