Hi

I've installed Gentoo with Gnome on my Laptop and want to allow users to mount the CD-RW drive and floppy. This works fine with typing the (u)mount command into a terminal.

Doing so with the floppy drive lets an icon appear on the desktop, but when mounting the CD drive no icon appears.
So here's my first question: Can anybody tell me how to automagically get a CD icon when mounting the CD drive (or even better: when inserting a CD or floppy)?

And I have a second question: Starting up Gnome I hear "desktop sounds" when logged in as root, but as 'normal' user there are no sounds for the desktop (although I can listen to mp3s without any problems). How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance,
vol.1

hi,

you have to add users to your cd-rw drive in /etc/fstab

Hi,

thank you for your quick reply, but I already had an entry user in my fstab. For some reason the CD icon after mounting didn't appear before I decided to reboot the system (my fault). So it works now :).

BTW: Do you have any suggestion for solving my "sound-problem"?

So long,

Hi again,

adding the user to the audio group worked :D! The user was already in the wheel group, but thank you for mentioning it.

Thanks again,
good night,
