i'm somewhat puzzled that i can only watch dvd's as root in xine. when i try to open a dvd as user, then xine tells me that this dvd is protected and that - if laws in my country don't prohibit it - i can use libdvdcss to watch it. but it won't let me play it. if i start xine as root then this message doesn't appear and everything works fine. (ok except for the colors - the video looks like lightened up - but that's another problem). |

This is maybe a stupid question, but are the rights on the libcss libraries correct ?
Run this command:
Code: |
ls -l /usr/lib/libdvdcss.*
|
There should be readable by world (an r on the eight character) and executable (expect libdvdcss.a and libdvdcss.la) (an x on the tenth character) |

i fixed it on my system by changing the group ownership on /dev/hdc, which had switched from cdroms to disk for some reason. |

these are the libraries:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 159028 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.a
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 714 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so -> libdvdcss.so.2.0.7
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.0 -> libdvdcss.so.2.0.7
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.1 -> libdvdcss.so.2.0.7
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2 -> libdvdcss.so.2.0.7
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 27576 17. Jun 19:40 /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2.0.7
so i guess that is fine.
and the ownership of the device is ok, too. |
